Sock Hop Fundraiser

2007

We had Joel singing Buddy Holly songs, "Switchville"
rockin' the Oldies, and we had fun, fun, fun!

Switchville filled the "high school gym" with
great music and good vibrations:

Jim Iverson, bass guitar; Steve May on drums;
Gary Bluhm, lead guitar;
and Richard Thomure, band leader and lead vocals.
Lots of folks turned out in the fashions of
the Sock Hop era.

Gals wore hair ribbons, pleated skirts, Dad's
big shirts, saddle shoes, tennies, neck scarves,
sweater sets, and even a fraternity pin with a classic string of pearls,

and charm bracelets and poodle skirts!

The guys turned up their collars and rolled up their jeans and tee-shirt
sleeves,
and some sported varsity letters.
Why is it that the lettermen always end up surrounded by Babes?

And there was an impromptu "Teen Idol" moment
when Bill Hatcher was mobbed by fans!

Bill Hay's high school ring was on a chain
around Karen's neck,
just like it was back when they were high school sweethearts.

Earlier in the day, the Decor Committee had
been hard at work,
and Kristin was caught with James Dean, while Elvis looked on!

Everything was festive and ready
for the Sock Hoppers to sit down to a great BBQ dinner,
with plenty left over for second helpings!

Keelyn O'Brien sang with the band
and wowed the crowd,
and was spotted near the brownies with her Dad!
...and there was DANCING !

They were slow-dancing,

and they were also movin' and groovin'

and splishin' and splashin'... yup,
there was a party going on!

"And all the Cats wanna dance with... Sweet
Little Sixteen!"
"Cause they'll be rockin on Bandstand, in
Philadelphia PA
Deep in the heart of Texas, and 'round the Frisco Bay
All over St. Louis, way down in New Orleans
All the cats wanna dance with Sweet Little Sixteen"
---Chuck Berry

Romance was in the air,
and Lisa's smile lit up the room.

Max and Ruthie were smiling too, proud to be
the winning bidders on the truckload of gravel,
and Max seemed to have some plans for that toy dump truck that came with it!

The silent auction was our best yet,
and every item was sold!

John and Nancy at the auction "Bank" made
order from chaos
in record time, and then accounted for every dime.

There was lots of action at the Lobby Bar with
friends swapping tales,

and Rollie made martinis "shaken not stirred,"
while Hanne charmed the customers,
and Howard and Cliff were all-around wonderful.
John DeWilder was one of our invaluable
real teenage helpers, who sold raffle tickets
and worked tirelessly at a thousand tasks,
along with Jason Crockett and Savannah Power.

Our Singing MC Joel Crockett called the
winning numbers,
with the help of Savannah, and Donna Blum...

and three very lucky people took home the
tempting raffle prize baskets
which were piled high with treats and gift certificates,
and all done up like Christmas morning!

The community was very generous, and opened up
their wallets,
making this our most successful fundraiser ever!

All proceeds go to local students through scholarships and academic awards.
Thank You!
